Soil structural unit Kaolinite -
The structure unit of kaolinite consist of two silica layer joined to one gibbsite layer structural unit. It is about 7Ã… thick and the layers are held together to from a kaolinite particle with thickness 100Ã… to 1000Ã… and lateral dimension from 1000Ã… to 20000Ã…. Silica and alumina layer are stacked by a hydrogen bond. This is very strong bond and so kalinite mineral is relatively stable. Water cannot enter easily between the layers. So clay containing this mineral behaves less swelling or wetting.
