  Void ratio (e)  - 

- The void  ratio, e is defined as the ratio of volume of voids,  (Vv) to the volume of soil solids expressed as a number in decimal 

form  .    (e= Vv/Vs).

- Air content, it is the ratio of volume of air voids (Va) to the total volume of voids expressed in percentage. ac =Va/Vv×100.
